TATARTIST's Guide
In the U.S., Christmas isn’t just one day on the calendar—it’s a whole season. Streets turn into light shows, bars host holiday markets, and local communities go big on giving. And if you’re a tattooer, you’ve probably noticed something else: December is “flash season.”
Studios drop Christmas flash sheets, host walk-in days, and (my favorite) run toy drives where people donate and get inked. It’s the kind of holiday energy that feels right for tattoo culture—community-forward, creative, and a little chaotic in the best way.
Before we get into the list, a quick note on the holiday itself:
A quick Christmas intro (the “why” behind the season)
Christmas (December 25) began as a Christian holiday celebrating the birth of Jesus, and over time it blended with older winter traditions and became a widely celebrated cultural holiday in the U.S. Today, it’s a mix of family time, generosity, and local events—markets, charity drives, and community gatherings. That’s exactly why so many tattoo shops lean into Toy Drive + Flash Day formats: it matches the season’s “give back” vibe while keeping things fun and accessible.

If you’re a tattoo artist, here’s how to use this list (without wasting time)
-
Go to study systems, not just vibes: How do they run the line? How do they price flash? How do they limit placement?
-
Pay attention to the charity mechanics: “Bring a toy” works best when the rules are ridiculously simple (value, receipt/no receipt, size limits).
-
Network like a normal human: One good vendor connection at a holiday market can turn into a guest spot later.
Closing: Christmas is about community (and we hope the world feels lighter)
At its best, the U.S. Christmas season is a reminder that people still want to gather, give back, and do something meaningful—even if it’s “bring a toy, get a little flash tattoo, and walk out feeling brighter.”
From all of us at TATARTIST:
